Introduction to XAMPP

XAMPP is a software package that includes everything you need to create a website but on your own computer instead of on the internet. It stands for

  • X: Cross-platform (it works on different types of OS like Windows, macOS, and Linux)
  • A: Apache (a web server that serves or delivers web pages)
  • M: MySQL (a database where information for your website is stored)
  • P: PHP (a programming language used to create dynamic web content)
  • P: Perl (another programming language, though mostly PHP is used nowadays)

Its completely free, easy to install Apache distribution containing MariaDB, PHP, and Perl. The XAMPP open source package has been set up to be incredibly easy to install and to use
